Lilah Clarke
About the artist
Lilah lives in Barnes and works in her home studio. She has been a potter since leaving school and attending Hammersmith College of Art and Building taking a 3 year vocational course in ceramics. In 1987 she began teaching pottery and undertook a BA. Hons course in Art with Education at Roehampton University. She continued to combine her own work with teaching for 25 years! She has exhibited during this time at galleries including Fire and Iron Gallery, with Joanna Bird, at the Museum of London and with London Potters. She has also held several Open Studios with other artists.
A turning point in her work was investing in a Gas Kiln in the late 1980s. This enabled her to make the pottery she really wanted to make and achieve the colours she had been striving for as she was now able to work in high fired reduction techniques. During this time she has worked mainly on commissions of varied sorts but in particular on commemorative bowls. Work now is largely functional pottery and the aim is to make pots that are a joy to use.
